Imagine with me...a Mother's Day Out Christmas program. Cute kids parade on stage, wave at their mommies and daddies, stare with huge eyes as the music plays and they look as if they've never heard the songs, the teachers pass out jingle bells and they shake them randomly to some song that only the music teacher sings. You know the type of program I'm talking about. The kind that every mommy loves to go to and takes a million picture of their kid, 'cause he (she) is the cutest one up there and the ONLY one who knew ALL the words to the song.
Okay, so that's the scene for the following scenario:
Jackson's class enters the stage for their part of the concert. All the kids are wearing soldier hats, 'cause the school is doing a patriotic tribute to honor the soldiers serving our country. Jackson is on the front row, kneeling on his knees. He's looking, looking, looking, but can't find me. He keeps looking, but still doesn't see me, so he says to the kid next to him "hey, do you see my mom?" Of course the kid doesn't.
So, the first song starts and Jackson is obviously about to cry. After that song is over, I stick my head out in the aisle and kind of smile and wave at him. "OH HI, MOM!! How are you doing??" To which the audience laughed. The music starts for the next song and Jackson says "Hey, Mom, this is the song I was telling you about!" More audience laughter...
The third song was "We Wish You a Merry Christmas", which is usually not a song you're required to stand while singing. But, someone thought so. He was kneeling, and proudly stood tall while singing the song. No one else felt the need to stand, but Jackson sang out loud and proud! When the concert was over, he said "Mom, did you like my program?" and again, more laughter from the audience.
A friend of mine said "I'm so glad Jackson has personality, everyone else in that class looks boring!"
I have a copy of part of the concert. His comments didn't make it on the video because they were stopping the tape between songs. But, his standing and the last comment did make it on the video.
